January 12, 2021 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of a woman at 10222 Forum West Drive about 10:05 p.m. on Monday (January 11).

The victim, Karina Montelongo, 25, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective K. Yeamans reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call in an apartment at the above address.  Upon arrival, they found Ms. Montelongo with a gunshot wound to the face.  Her roommate told officers that Montelongo was showing her a gun she owned.  The roommate stated she had never handled a gun and did not know it was loaded.  According to the roommate, she was holding the gun while Montelongo was teaching her about it and it accidentally went off, striking Montelongo.  While on the way to the hospital, Montelongo also told Houston Fire Department paramedics the shooting was an accident.

There are no charges in this incident, pending further investigation.
