Update: Suspect Charged, Wanted in Woman's Death at 102 West Rosamond Street
October 12 2020 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the death of a woman found at 102 West Rosamond Street about 11 a.m. on August 16.
The suspect, Stephen D. Chaney (b/m, 28), is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court. He is accused in the death of Claudia Maria Leiva, 21.
A prior photo of Chaney, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Fregia and N. Sharp reported:
Ms. Leiva was discovered next to a dumpster in the condominium complex at the above address. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. A preliminary investigation indicated Leiva may have been left at the location several days before she was discovered.
Further investigation and an autopsy conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined Leiva suffered a gunshot wound and her body was left at the above location. Information was developed that identified Chaney as the suspect in this case and, on Thursday (October 8), a murder charge was filed and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
