January 10, 2020 - Houston police are investigating the shooting of a female that occurred at 12510 Southgreen Drive about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday (January 9). 

The victim, Aliyah Layton, 17, was transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition.  

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers A. Le, J. Cimeni and L. Thornton reported:  

Ms. Layton and a group of friends were sitting smoking marijuana in the back of an apartment complex at the above address smoking marijuana.  One of the passengers was playing with a gun and it accidentally discharged, striking Layton in the shoulder.  She was placed in the back seat of the vehicle while they drove around until they decided to call 9-1-1.  Witnesses provided conflicting statements on what occurred.  

At this time, it has not been determined if there was another passenger in the back seat during the shooting.
