Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 3800 Gulf Freeway
November 25, 2019 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 3800 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 1:10 a.m. on Saturday (November 23).
The suspect, Lupe Longoria (H/m, 27), is charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #13 A booking photo of Longoria is attached to this news release.
The identities of the two male victims are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer V. Ramos reported:
A black Nissan Versa was involved in a crash and was disabled on the southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway near Cullen Boulevard. The Versa was then struck by a blue Nissan Altima. The drivers exited their vehicles and stood in the lane near the HOV concrete barrier while a wrecker truck blocked another lane of traffic.
The driver (Longoria) of a gray Toyota CHR traveling southbound on the freeway failed to stay in a single lane and struck both pedestrians. One of the men, 45, died at the scene. The other was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced deceased. Longoria was detained at the scene. He was determined to be impaired and subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
