Suspect Arrested in Shooting Incident at 3701 Louisiana Street
June 17, 2019 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 3701 Louisiana Street about 1 p.m. on Sunday (June 16).
The suspect, Joey Harper (w/m, 27), faces a charge of felon in possession of a weapon. A booking photo of Harper is not available at this time.
The victim, Nehemias Alejandro Olmedo, 39, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers L. Bolmanski and A. Le reported:
Mr. Olmedo had just left a gym at the above address and was placing his daughter in the backseat of his vehicle when the suspect (Harper) approached. The suspect, wearing a mask and in a wheelchair, rolled up behind Olmedo and shot him. Olmedo managed to tackle the suspect and knock him from the wheelchair, however the suspect wrestled away and left in the wheelchair.
A witness followed the suspect, still in his wheelchair, to a business parking lot three blocks away. The suspect was attempting to leave in a friend's vehicle when officers detained him. He was still in possession of the mask and pistol at the time of his arrest.
