Investigation into Fatal Crash at 1800 Wirt Road
January 3, 2019 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 1800 Wirt Road around 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday (January 2).
The identity of the female victim, 86, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer S. Le reported:
The victim, in a wheelchair, was exiting a gate on the south side of an apartment complex at the above address and attempted to cross Wirt, not at a crosswalk. As she crossed the street, she was struck by a silver Toyota 4Runner traveling southbound on Wirt. The victim was transported by HFD paramedics to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Toyota, who was determined not to be impaired, was questioned and released at the scene.
