Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting Incident at 4200 San Jacinto Street
July 6, 2018 - Charges have been filed against a suspect who wounded himself during a struggle with a deputy with the Fort Bend County Precinct 2 Constable's Office at 4200 San Jacinto Street about 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday (July 4).
The suspect, Malichia Legree (b/m, 48), sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was treated at Ben Taub General Hospital and then transported to jail. Legree is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant in the 351st State District Court. A booking photo of Legree is attached to this news release.
The deputy constable was not injured in the incident.
HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit Officers M. Glover and R. Gonzalez reported:
The deputy was working an extra job as a security officer at the Fiesta Mart at the above address when he was notified there was a male inside the store acting suspicious and attempting to steal items. As the deputy was leading the suspect to the store office to issue a trespass warning, the suspect became argumentative. The suspect diverted into the men’s restroom and when the deputy attempted to take him into custody, the suspect became combative. The suspect grabbed the deputy’s firearm and managed to pull it out of the holster. At that point, the deputy and suspect began fighting for the weapon and both fell to the ground. The suspect continued to fight the deputy for the weapon while making threatening statements toward the deputy. During the struggle, the suspect pulled the trigger and was shot once in his left leg. The suspect continued to fight for the gun and the store assistant manager helped the deputy pull the gun from the suspect’s grip.
As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit.
