Update: Investigation into Fatal Crash at 3400 Holmes Road
October 4, 2017 - A second person involved in a fatal crash that occurred at 3400 Holmes Road about 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 19 has died from his injuries.
The identity of the male victim, 26, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Lee and Officer M. Burton reported:
The driver of a tractor-trailer truck was traveling westbound on Holmes Road and made a left turn onto Woodward. The 18-wheeler was then struck by a blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Holmes. One backseat passenger of the pickup was ejected and died at the scene. The driver of the pickup and a second front seat passenger were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
On Tuesday (Oct. 3), the second passenger was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the 18-wheeler told police he was blinded by the sun and a large tree in the median when he was making the turn. He did not show signs of being impaired and was questioned and released.
The investigation is continuing.
