Investigation into Fatal Crash at 10900 East Freeway
November 27, 2017 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 10900 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) at about 10:30 a.m. last Friday (November 24).
The identity of the deceased female victim, 68, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Williams and Officer D. Ashford reported:
The driver of a tan GMC Sierra pickup truck changed lanes but, due to his view being obstructed by an 18-wheeler, he did not see a white Nissan Sentra stopped partially on the shoulder and in a lane of traffic. The GMC struck the Nissan, pushing the Nissan into the grassy area between the shoulder and feeder road. The Nissan then caught fire. The driver of the GMC attempted to rescue the driver of the Nissan before the vehicle became engulfed in flames, but was unsuccessful. The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC suffered burns to his hands during the attempted rescue and was treated by paramedics.
The GMC driver was questioned and released. The investigation is continuing. No charges have been filed at this time.
