Suspect Charged, Wanted in Fatal Shooting at 3100 Anita
May 1, 2017 - HOUSTON - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 3100 Anita about 1:30 p.m. on Friday (April 28).
The suspect, Joe Roy Cockerham III (b/m, 23) is charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court. A photo of Cockerham is attached to this news release.
The victim, Alfred Earl James, 40, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Officers T. Ferguson and J. Young reported:
Mr. James observed the suspect, Cockerham, strike his vehicle while driving by at the above address. When Cockerham returned to his home at 3113 Anita he was confronted by James. The two men began arguing and Cockerham produced a pistol and threatened James. When James did not back down, Cockerham shot him in the chest. James attempted to flee to his vehicle parked across the street and was shot several more times in the back. When James fell in the street, Cockerham stood over him and again shot him multiple times before fleeing.
Cockerham was last seen driving a gold-colored Chevrolet Impala. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
