Investigation into Fatal Crash at 6800 Southwest Freeway
March 7, 2017 - Houston police are investigating a fatal auto pedestrian crash that occurred at 6800 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 1:45 a.m. today (March 7).
The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roque and Officer G. Anderson reported:
The victim was on foot and crossing the freeway at the above address when he was struck by a gray Lexus GS. The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene. Another motorist passing by saw the Lexus with its flashers on and then observed the victim lying in the freeway in a moving lane of traffic. He stopped and attempted to pull the victim off the freeway. While doing so, he was almost struck by an 18-wheeler that then struck the victim. The driver of the tractor trailer did not stop.
The driver of the Lexus was administered a field sobriety test at the scene and was found not to be impaired.
The investigation is continuing.
