Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5400 Guhn
July 31, 2017 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash that occurred at 5400 Guhn at 9:30 p.m. last Friday (July 28).
The suspect, Jonathan Daniel Mendez, (H/m, 27) is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 180th State District Court.

The identity of the victim is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kopulos and Officer J. Crisler reported:
Mendez was driving a silver GMC Envoy on Hempstead when he rear-ended a white Ford truck. Mendez spoke briefly with the driver of the Ford and then pulled over to the shoulder as if to exchange information. After the Ford pulled over, Mendez immediately sped off. The driver of the Ford followed Mendez and noted he was driving at a high rate of speed. Mendez then lost control of his vehicle while traveling southbound on Guhn and struck a telephone pole. Mendez's passenger (victim) was pronounced dead at the scene. Mendez was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was determined to be intoxicated.
