Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 9560 Deering

February 9, 2017 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man found at 9560 Deering at about 5 a.m. on January 24, 2017.  

The suspect, Joshua Simmons (b/m, 30), is charged with murder in the 177th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Denard Dixon, 30, of Houston, who died at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. Holbrook and A. Semmelrock reported:  

A passerby noticed the body of an unresponsive male (Mr. Dixon) lying on the side of the road near the above address and attempted to provide medical assistance.  HFD paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced Dixon deceased.  According to witnesses, Dixon visited the apartment complex at Deering frequently.  Investigators believe Dixon may have been arguing with other males in the complex earlier in the evening.  

Further investigation identified Simmons as the suspect in this case.  He was taken into custody on Wednesday (February 8) without incident.
