Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 2300 South Wayside
August 22, 2017 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash at 2300 South Wayside about 4:10 p.m. on Monday (August 21).
The suspect, Marcos Silva Astorga (H/m, 28), is charged with failure to stop and render aid and felony driving while intoxicated in the 339th State District Court.

The identity of the deceased male victim, 57, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Lee and Officer A. Sampson reported:
Silva Astorga was driving a white Nissan ATS northbound on South Wayside in the left turn lane when he suddenly changed lanes and continued into the intersection of the Gulf Freeway service road. The victim was standing on a narrow median approximately 15 feet from the crosswalk and, as he stepped into the street, he was struck by the Nissan. The victim landed on a black Honda Accord stopped at a stop light at the intersection. Silva Astorga fled the scene in his vehicle.
A witness followed the Nissan to the 800 block of 75th Street and flagged down an HPD patrol officer. Silva Astorga was detained, found to be impaired and subsequently charged.
