Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 7011 Village Way
August 14, 2017 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 7011 Village Way about 12:40 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 12).
The suspect, Joseph Lewis (b/m, 43), is charged with murder in the 174th State District Court. A photo of Lewis is attached to this news release.
The victim, Leticia Campbell Sowell, 41, of the above address was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives R. Olive and Officer S. Sylvester reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a reported shooting at the above address. Upon arrival, they found Ms. Sowell lying at the entrance of her apartment. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced her deceased.
Witnesses identified Sowell’s fiancé, Lewis, as the shooter in this case and advised he had fled the scene in her vehicle. Officers with the HPD Crime Reduction Unit were subsequently able to locate Lewis and take him into custody without incident.
