An off-duty Harris County Precinct 1 reserve deputy constable gave a ride to an acquaintance and dropped him off at the intersection of Cavalcade and Wipprecht Street. Before the male left, he struck the reserve deputy in the head with a gun and demanded money. Both men got into a struggle and the suspect shot the reserve deputy. Fearing for his life, the reserve deputy returned fire. At that time, it was unknown if the suspect was struck. The suspect fled the scene on foot. HFD paramedics responded to the scene and transported the deputy to the hospital. An individual found wounded at Ben Taub General Hospital and initially detained was determined not to be a suspect in this incident.
