May 18, 2016 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man found at 6320 Fairdale Lane about 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday (May 17).
The suspect, Veronica Erin Staley (w/f, 34), faces a charge of murder. She is accused in the killing of Aljosa Memovic, 30, of Houston. Mr. Memovic suffered multiple gunshot wounds and lacerations and was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Hospital. HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. Brady and J. Burton and Officer B. Roberts reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found Mr. Memovic lying in the parking lot. He was then transported by HFD paramedics to the hospital. According to witnesses, Memovic was walking through the parking lot when he was assaulted and shot by a female wearing pink workout clothes. The female then fled the scene in a black Hyundai Genesis.
Further investigation determined the female and Memovic had a previous dating relationship and it is believed a meeting had been arranged between the two. Surveillance video of the suspect was then released to local media. Early this morning (May 18), relatives of the suspect contacted authorities and identified the person in the surveillance video as Veronica Staley. She was taken into custody without incident at the relatives' residence in northwest Houston. Investigators also recovered the Hyundai Genesis and the gun believed to have been used in the incident. Staley admitted to her role in Memovic's death and was subsequently charged.
