Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 4800 Gulf Freeway
July 5, 2016 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 4800 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate hHghway 45) about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday (July 2).
The suspect, Armando Pineda Saavedra (H/m, 35), is charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #6. A photo of Saavedra is attached to this news release.
The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Thomas and Officer K. Hines reported:
The driver (victim) of a red Dodge Avenger was traveling northbound on the Gulf Freeway when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a concrete guardrail. The driver then stopped in a moving lane of traffic and got out of his vehicle to check the damage. As the victim was standing outside his vehicle, he was struck by a black GMC Sierra pickup truck also traveling northbound on the freeway. The victim died at the scene. The driver of the GMC was detained, determined to be impaired and subsequently charged.
