Investigation into Shots Fired at Officers at 5100 Clover

February 23, 2016 - Houston police are investigating a shooting incident in which gunfire struck an HPD patrol vehicle at 5100 Clover about 10:20 p.m. on Monday (Feb. 22).

No officers were injured and no officer discharged a weapon.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Meek and Senior Police Officer T. Andrade reported:

A two-man Southeast Division Tactical Unit was in a marked patrol vehicle traveling north on Jutland Street when the officers heard multiple gunshots in the area of 5100 Clover Street.  The officers turned on to Clover from Noel Street, where they noticed a vehicle in the ditch.  At that time, the officers then heard several more gunshots, one of which struck the windshield on the passenger side of their patrol vehicle.  The officers put their vehicle in reverse to avoid further gunfire and called for back-up officers to the scene.

A photo of the patrol vehicle's damaged windshield is attached to this news release.

The vehicle in the ditch had been shot multiple times through its front windshield.  The male owner of the vehicle and a second male found nearby were later detained, questioned by homicide investigators and released.

Investigators learned at least two groups of individuals were shooting at each other prior to the patrol officers' arrival.  No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
