December 15, 2016 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 6200 South Braeswood about 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday (December 14).
The identity of the female victim, 48, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Vanderbull and Officer D. Jones reported:
The male driver of a silver GMC Envoy was traveling northbound in the 9400 block of Bob White when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed over east and west bound lanes of South Braeswood and stopped at a curb of a T-intersection. The victim was traveling in her vehicle westbound on South Braeswood and noticed the Envoy was blocking lanes of traffic. She then stopped and exited her vehicle to help the GMC driver, who appeared to be unresponsive. As the victim crossed in front of the Envoy, the driver suddenly woke up, accelerated his vehicle, struck the victim and went over the curb. The victim died at the scene. The 87 year-old driver of the Envoy was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital and showed no signs of intoxication.
Investigators believe the driver of the Envoy, 87, suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.
No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.
