Investigation into Fatal Crash at 14800 Gulf Freeway


August 10, 2016 -Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 14800 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday (August 9).  

The male victims were pronounced dead at the scene.  Their identities are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roque and Officer L. Galvan reported:  

According to witnesses, a green Ford Mustang was stopped in a moving lane of traffic on the northbound side of the Gulf Freeway and several vehicles swerved to avoid striking the vehicle.  The driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup truck stated a vehicle in front of him swerved to avoid the Mustang, however the Tundra's driver was also unable to so.  The Mustang burst into flames and someone was seen pulling the driver from the vehicle.  Houston Fire Department emergency personnel responded and, after the fire was extinguished, found two deceased passengers in the Mustang. 

The driver of the Tundra, who was determined not to be impaired, was transported by HFD to an area hospital in an unknown condition.  The driver of the Mustang was also transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition and determined to be intoxicated.  

Charges have not been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.
