Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 4400 Southwest Freeway
April 19, 2016 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash that occurred at 400 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 1:15 a.m. on Saturday (April 16).
The suspect, Randy Carvajal (H/m, 38) is charged with intoxicated manslaughter in the 232nd State District Court. A photo of Carvajal is attached to this news release.
The male victim, a pedestrian, 25, was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roque and Officer J. Crisler reported:
A black Mercedes C240, which appeared to be disabled and in a moving lane of traffic on the Southwest Freeway, was struck by a gray Toyota Corolla. The driver of the Toyota got out of his vehicle and was standing next to the driver side door of the Mercedes when a red Fiat, driven by Carvajal, struck the Toyota and then the victim. Carvajal was taken into custody at the scene, determined to be impaired and subsequently charged. The driver of the Mercedes was not injured. Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
