October 19, 2015 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of another at 3545 Blodgett about 11:50 a.m. on October 9.
The suspect, Jartis Leon LeBlanc, Jr. (b/m, 22), is charged with murder and aggravated assault-serious bodily injury in the 179th State District Court for his role in the killing of Brent Demond Randall, 18, of Houston. A photo of suspect LeBlanc is attached to this news release.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Murdock and Senior Police Officer B. Evans reported:
Mr. Randall and the second victim were standing outside the Texas Southern University Courtyard Apartments at the above address when they were approached by an unknown black male suspect. The suspect produced a semi-automatic handgun and began firing at the victims, striking both of them. The suspect then fled into the building and later exited out a side door.
Randall was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Further investigation led to the identity of LeBlanc as a suspect in this case. Last Friday evening (Oct. 16), officers were dispatched to a residence at 6327 Knox and were advised LeBlanc was hiding in the attic of the residence. Members of the SWAT team arrived and used loud speakers to communicate with LeBlanc, who surrendered a short time later without incident.
