Investigation into Female Found Deceased at 1900 Briar Grove

November 2, 2015 - Houston police are investigating the death of a woman found deceased at 1900 Briar Grove about 11:05 a.m. on Saturday (October 31).

The woman, Maria Diego-Martinez, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Semmelrock and Senior Police Officer M. Stahlin reported:

About 2 a.m., Ms. Diego-Martinez was driving westbound in the 6300 Beverly Hill Street when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a fence.  The vehicle went through the fence and into Bering Ditch. Due to the heavy rains, the ditch was full of water and the vehicle floated until it stopped at a bridge near Richmond Avenue.  Diego-Martinez and her husband managed to free themselves from the vehicle.  She remained on the roof of the vehicle while the husband attempted to get help.

The husband reached the roadway and, about 30 minutes after the crash, flagged down a passing motorist who called for help.  When the husband returned to the scene, neither Martinez nor the vehicle could be found.  The vehicle was later recovered a short distance away, where it had been pushed by the water.  Once the water receded, Diego-Martinez was found in Bering Ditch near the 1900 block of Bering Drive.  She was pronounced deceased by HFD paramedics.
