Suspect Arrested, Charged in Crash at 5600 Chimney Rock
June 22, 2015 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in a hit-and-run crash that injured multiple people at 5600 Chimney Rock about 8:20 pm on Saturday (June 20).
The suspect, Obdulio Vasquez (H/m, 38) is charged with three counts of failure to stop and render aid in the 232nd State District Court. A photo of Vasquez is attached to this news release.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roberts and Officer F. Flynn reported:
Vasquez was driving a silver Chevrolet Impala northbound on Chimney Rock at a high rate of speed and, according to a witness, racing a white Ford F-150 pickup truck while weaving in and out of traffic. The suspect then struck a silver Chrysler Town and Country minivan. After striking the Chrysler, Vasquez lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway, striking a Metro bus stop and three pedestrians at the bus stop. Vasquez then fled the scene and abandoned the Impala in an area apartment complex.
A short time later, Vasquez was found hiding nearby and taken into custody.
The three pedestrians, one female and two males, were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. The female suffered life-threatening injuries, one male suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries and the other male suffered non life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
