HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Brooks and C. Cegielski reported:
Two groups of males got into an argument at the above address, which escalated when at least one suspect began shooting. Mr. Watkins was struck and transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A second male was wounded and is expected to survive his injuries. The suspects are described only as three to four black males in their early 20s.
Further investigation led to the identity of Gilmore as the shooter and, on Wednesday (Jan. 13), he was arrested without incident.
