January 14, 2015 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident at 13400 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 12:40 a.m. on August 24, 2014
The suspect, Jose Carlos Garza (H/m, 26), is charged with failure to stop and render aid in an accident involving death the 209th State District Court.
The male victim, Rodney Matthew Hough, Jr., 21, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant T. Trometer and Officer F. Flynn reported:
The driver of a black Dodge Challenger, driving at a high rate of speed westbound on the East Freeway struck the rear of a white Suzuki motorcycle. The operator of the motorcycle (Mr. Hough) died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge fled westbound on the East Freeway and abandoned the vehicle just before John Rallston Street.
Further investigation and evidence from the scene identified Garza as the suspect in this case. A warrant was issued for his arrest and, on Monday (January 12), he was taken into custody without incident.
