HPD Cold Case Unit Clears 2004 Murder Investigation
December 10, 2015 - Investigators in the Houston Police Department Cold Case Unit have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman found at 8100 Hanna about 7:15 p.m. on December 29, 2004.
The suspect, Elijah Sidney, Jr., is determined to be responsible for the death of Karin Price, 35, who later died at Ben Taub General Hospital.
A photo of Elijah Sidney, Jr., who is now deceased and was 50 at the time of the murder, is attached to this news release.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Parker, and Senior Police Officers S. Straughter and M. Kral reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a call regarding a female in a ditch on the side of the road at the above address. Officers found Ms. Price had sustained several gunshot wounds. She was transported by HFD paramedics to the hospital where she later died.
A preliminary investigation at that time identified Elijah Sidney, Jr., an acquaintance of Price, as a suspect in this case. He was questioned by investigators and initially denied his involvement in Price's death. Sidney then submitted to a polygraph test, failed it and refused to further cooperate with investigators. The case was then presented to the Harris County District Attorney's Office, however, charges were not accepted at that time. Elijah Sidney later died from a medical condition in 2014 at the age of 60.
In 2015, investigators from the HPD Cold Case Unit reviewed the case and re-interviewed persons associated with the incident. Further investigation developed information that contradicted Elijah Sidney's initial statement provided to investigators in 2004. The Harris County District Attorney's Office was briefed and agreed that, based on information obtained from 2004 and 2015, Sidney would be charged with murder if he was still alive today.
