Investigation into Child's Found Deceased at 5300 DeSoto
August 11, 2015 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a juvenile female found at 5300 DeSoto about 8:55 a.m. today.
The girl, 9, was discovered deceased in White Oak Bayou. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Parker and Officer S. Sylvester reported:
HPD patrol officers, along with HFD paramedics, responded to a missing juvenile report at an apartment complex at 6060 Oak Bay Drive. Upon arrival, they learned the 9-year-old girl suffered from Angelman Syndrome and had walked away from the family's apartment. A search along nearby White Oak Bayou located the girl. She was pronounced deceased by HFD paramedics.
The preliminary investigation shows no indications the girl had been harmed and no signs of trauma were visible. The investigation is pending an examination by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences to determine her cause of death.
