September 24, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested after an incident in which two Houston Police officers discharged their duty weapons at the suspect at 4800 Holloway about 2 a.m. on Tuesday (September 23).  

The suspect, Christopher Mitchell (b/m, 25), is charged with assault with bodily injury of a public servant in the 182nd State District Court.  Mitchell suffered non life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.  A photo of Mitchell is not available for release at this time.  

Officers C. Harrington and R. Arriaga, who discharged their duty weapons, were not injured in the incident.  Officer Harrington, assigned to the Gang Division, was sworn in as an officer in November 2010.  Officer Arriaga, assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in June 2012.  

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Semmelrock and Officer D. Fontenot reported:  

HPD patrol officers responded to the 4800 block of Holloway regarding a wanted suspect (Mitchell) being at the location.  Officers arrived and saw Mitchell inside a vehicle in the driveway of a residence.  Mitchell turned the vehicle toward Officers Harrington and Arriaga and accelerated toward them.  Fearing for their lives and that of a third fellow officer, Officers Arriaga and Harrington discharged their duty weapons.  Mitchell was struck and then transported to the hospital.  The third officer was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.  

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
