September 8, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 12000 Fondren about 6:40 p.m. on Saturday (September 6).
The identity of the female victim, 28, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Lopez and Officer B. Mark reported:
The drivers of a yellow Dodge Charger and a silver Toyota Camry were traveling southbound on Fondren when they approached a railroad crossing with arms down and red lights flashing. Both drivers attempted to drive around the crossing arms. As the Charger crossed the railroad tracks, the vehicle was struck by a KCS train on the passenger side. The Charger then went airborne and struck the Camry. The driver and passenger of the Charger were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where the female passenger was pronounced dead. The driver was treated for non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Camry was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
