September 2, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 2600 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 12:45 a.m. on Monday (September 1).
The male victim, a pedestrian, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roberts and Officer J. Gaona reported:
The victim was seen by multiple witnesses walking on the freeway and attempting to hit passing vehicles by swinging a crutch. The victim was then struck by a vehicle of unknown make and model that did not remain at the scene. As officers conducted a preliminary investigation, they received information on the suspect's location. Officers located the suspect less than one mile from the scene and he was questioned and released with no charges filed at this time.
The investigation is continuing.
