October 17, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 15135 Old Humble Road about 10 p.m. on September 14.
The suspect, Saul Santiago Acuna (H/m, 18), is charged with capital murder in the 174th State District Court for his role in the killing of Gerardo Hernandez, 26. A photo of suspect Acuna is attached to this news release.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Hassig and Officer T. Ferguson reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to the above address regarding a male (Mr. Hernandez) lying in the parking lot. Hernandez was found unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds. HFD paramedics transported him to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
At a news briefing at HPD Headquarters on Tuesday (Oct. 14), homicide investigators released surveillance video of the Hispanic male suspect with a mustache and wearing a gray hoodie as he got into the passenger side of Hernandez's vehicle about 9:45 p.m. on Sept. 14. Several minutes later, a black four-door vehicle of unknown make or model pulled up to the rear of the above address, where Hernandez was shot. The vehicle then fled the location.
After the video was shown in the media, investigators received information on the identity of the suspect and, on Thursday (Oct. 16), arrested Acuna without incident.
