May 19, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 1500 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 8 a.m. on Sunday (May 18).
The identity of the female victim, 93, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeants D. Arnold, L. Ross and Officer E. Rubio reported:
A white Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on the Southwest Freeway at a high rate of speed and struck a black Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by the victim. The Mercury struck the west retaining wall and then the east retaining wall before coming to a stop. The victim was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Nissan did not exhibit signs of intoxication.
The investigation is continuing.
