June 9, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 7555 Scott Street about 7:10 p.m. on Saturday (June 7).

The suspect, James Lawrence McCarty (b/m, 55) is charged with murder in the 230th State District Court. A photo of McCarty is attached to this news release.

The victim, Cyril Chatman Jones, 33, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant N. Ruland and Officers T. Miller and J. Saldana reported:
Ms. Jones and McCarty were involved in an argument in the parking lot of a gas station at 755 Cullen. During the altercation, McCarty produced a handgun and shot Jones. He was subsequently identified and arrested at the scene.
