July 7, 2014 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a woman at 5607 Trafalgar about 12 a.m. on Sunday (July 6).

The suspect, Dereck Labrock Smith (b/m, 59), is charged with murder in the 174th State District Court.  A photo of Smith is attached to this news release.

The identity of the female victim, 44, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Sturdivant and Senior Police Officer D. Arnold reported:

Smith and the victim lived together at the above address.  The two began to argue, at which time Smith produced a rifle and fired one time, striking the victim.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
