January 07, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 16000 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 9 a.m. today (Jan. 7).

The identity of the deceased male victim, 59, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Francois and Officer D. Ashford reported:

The driver of a gray Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west on the Katy Freeway when he failed to control his vehicle's speed and struck a silver Chevrolet Impala.  The front passenger of the Impala died at the scene.  The Impala's driver, a 21-year-old man, was transported by Life Flight Helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.  The driver of the Tahoe did not show any signs of impairment and was not injured.  

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.
