Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 9200 South Freeway
February 10, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 9200 South Freeway (South U.S. Highway 288) about 2:35 a.m. on Sunday (Feb. 9).
The suspect, Joshua Deshawn Gilbert (b/m, DOB: 2-13-89) is chared with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxicated assault in the 262nd State District Court. A photo of Gilbert is attached to this news release.
The two victims, a male, 35, and a female, 15, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roberts and Officer F. Fylnn reported:
The suspect, Gilbert, was driving a silver Cadillac southbound on the South Freeway at a high rate of speed when he abruptly attempted to exit at Airport Boulevard. He then struck the rear of a tan Honda Accord that was also exiting, killing the Honda's female rear seat passenger and the male front seat passenger. A girl, 3, in a rear carseat, and the Accord's female driver, 38, were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. The driver suffered severe injuries while the child suffered an apparent broken ankle. The suspect, Gilbert, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
