Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 12200 Beechnut
April 7, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 12200 Beechnut about 10:35 p.m. on Sunday (April 6).
The suspect, Willie James Johnson, Jr., 42, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 208th State District Court. A photo of Johnson is attached to this news release.
The identity of the male victim, 48, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant T. Trometer and Officer K. Hines reported:
Johnson was driving a Freightliner truck (without a trailer) westbound on Beechnut and ran a red light while turning left on to Cook Road. The truck was then struck by a red Chevrolet Tahoe, traveling southbound on Cook with a green light. The driver of the Tahoe was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Johnson, who was taken into custody at the scene, was found to be intoxicated and subsequently charged.
