May 29, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 800 North Sam Houston Parkway East about 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday (May 28).

The identity of the male victim, 58, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer T. Van reported:

A gray Chevrolet Suburban was stalled in the westbound far right lane of the North Sam Houston Parkway.  A female driving a black Honda Civic stated she was traveling westbound when traffic slowed in front of her and a vehicle in front of her changed lanes.  The female says she then saw a man standing behind the stalled vehicle.  At that time, she applied her brakes and then saw the man suddenly jump off the overpass.  The female's Honda then struck the Suburban.  The man fell about 30 feet and was pronounced dead at the scene.  

The female driver was questioned and investigators determined she exhibited no signs of impairment.  No charges were filed and she was released.
