Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 5102 Poinciana

May 24, 2013 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man found at 5102 Poinciana about 5:15 a.m. today (May 24).

The identity of the male victim, 56, of the above address, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Tolls and Senior Police Officer R. Cervantes reported:

Residents in the area reported hearing a loud bang at approximately 5:15 a.m.  Several neighbors went outside to investigate but did not notice anything suspicious.  At approximately 5:40 a.m., a passerby saw the victim lying in the front yard of the above address and notified police.  Responding officers found the victim deceased from an apparent shotgun wound to the back.

Responding officers also found branches of marijuana plants strewn on the roadway west of the residence and, upon further investigation, found one of the bedrooms of the residence had been converted into a place to cultivate marijuana plants.

Neighbors reported seeing two vehicles leaving the area immediately after hearing the gunshot.  They are described only as a light brown 2000-2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer and a white four-door sedan.
