June 17, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident at 1800 Wirt Road about 8:45 p.m. on Sunday (June 16).

The male victim, 49, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Nickerson and Officer M. Hardt reported:

The victim attempted to cross the street in the 1800 block of Wirt Road when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Wirt. The vehicle, believed to be a red Toyota Celica, did not stop and fled the scene.
