June 17, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 2300 South Loop East (South Interstate Highway 610 East) about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday (June 15).
The identity of the male victim, 23, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Park and Officer R. Klementich reported:
The victim was driving a silver Pontiac Grand Am east on the 610 South Loop when his vehicle struck the back of a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck. The truck crossed two lanes of traffic and crashed into a concrete wall. The Grand Am also crossed over two lanes of traffic and struck a concrete wall along the Kirby Drive exit ramp. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where the driver of the Grand Am was pronounced dead and the 63-year-old male driver of the Ford F-150 was listed in stable condition.
An initial investigation indicates the deceased male may have suffered a heart attack, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle.
The investigation is continuing.
