June 17, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 2500 Chartres about 5:40 p.m. on Sunday (June 16).

The identity of the deceased male, 57, of Houston, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant T. Trometer and Officer H. Nguyen reported:

A male was driving a white Ford F-250 pickup truck at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light at the intersection of McGowen and Chartres and struck a black Honda Civic. The two persons in the Honda were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital and four passengers in the pickup truck were taken to Ben Taub General Hospital. All had suffered non life-threatenting injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was ejected and pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

The investigation is continuing.
