June 17, 2013 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of one man and wounding of two others at 8300 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday (June 16).

The deceased victim, Joe Anthony Vargas, 24, of Houston, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Two other males, 25 and 22 years of age, were also wounded and transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Whitehead and Senior Police Officer B. Nabors reported:

An altercation started inside The Zone nightclub at the above address and had spilled out into the parking lot. An unknown suspect pulled a gun and started firing shots at Mr. Vargas and two other males. All three were struck and the suspect fled the scene.
