January 22, 2012 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 600 North Sam Houston Parkway service road about 12:10 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 20).

The identity of the male victim, 38, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Tapia and Officer J. Perrotte reported:

The victim was driving a red Kia Soul at a high rate of speed eastbound through a construction zone on the North Sam Houston Parkway service road.  The vehicle jumped a curb on the left side of the road and struck an overpass concrete support pillar.  The impact caused the vehicle to roll over and eject the driver.  Paramedics transported the driver to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is continuing.
