Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 7400 East Freeway
February 18, 2012 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 7400 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 2:50 a.m. on Sunday (Feb. 17).
The suspect, Saul Diaz (H/m, DOB: 9-16-82), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 228th State District Court. A photo of Diaz is attached to this news release.
The male victim, 30, of Pearland, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Nickerson and Officer D. Ashford reported:
Diaz was driving a red Cadillac CTS eastbound at a high rate of speed on the East Freeway when he struck the rear of a blue Geo Tracker, also traveling east on the freeway. Both vehicles lost control and veered onto the right shoulder of the freeway. The passenger in the Tracker was ejected and died at the scene. The driver of the Tracker was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with minor injuries. Diaz, who appeared to be intoxicated, fled the scene but returned a few minutes later. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
