August 5, 2013 - Charges have been filed against a suspect in the fatal shooting of one man and wounding of two others at 8300 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 5:30 a.m. on June 16.
The suspect, Jason Eric Ramirez (H/m, DOB: 8-10-79), is charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 232nd State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Joe Anthony Vargas, 24, of Houston, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Two other males, 25 and 22 years of age, were also wounded and transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Ramirez was taken into custody on June 18, posted bond and failed to appear for his court date.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Whitehead and Senior Police Officer B. Nabors reported:
An altercation between Ramirez and the victims started inside The Zone nightclub at the above address and had spilled out into the parking lot. Ramirez pulled a gun and started firing shots at Mr. Vargas and two other males. All three were struck and Ramirez fled the scene.
Further investigation developed information that identified Ramirez as the suspect in this case and he remains at large.
