April 11, 2013 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 1000 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 5:30 a.m. today.

The identity of the deceased female is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Hall and Senior Police Officer R. Tallent reported:

The victim was driving a black GMC pickup truck southbound on the main lanes of the Eastex Freeway when her vehicle was struck by a black Infiniti, traveling the wrong way, northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway. A third vehicle, a gray Ford Taurus, then struck the victim's truck. Two males inside the Taurus were transported to St. Joseph Medical Center with minor injuries and the female driver of the Infiniti was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
