May 2, 2012 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman and suicide of a man at 1200 West Tidwell about 11 a.m. on Tuesday (May 1).

The female victim, Linda Alton, 31, of the above address, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.  The identity of the male shooter, 39, the victim's boyfriend, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Elliott and Officer M. Stahlin reported:

Ms. Alton and her two-year-old daughter were walking from their apartment to a friend's apartment to get a ride to the doctor's office.  Shortly after leaving their apartment, Alton and her daughter encountered her estranged boyfriend and got into an argument.  At some point during the argument, Alton's boyfriend shot her in front of their daughter and then shot himself.  The child was unharmed and is in the custody of Alton's family.
